Westgate Lawns Bridgnorth

The Project

The client's brief was to design, manufacture and install a car park for a block of nine apartments close to the town centre of Bridgnorth.

The basement car park was built in two weeks using dense concrete panels 250-300mm thick. The largest panels are 3m long and 3.5m high.

The contract comprised external and internal walls, a lift shaft and precast staircase as well as steel beams and hollowcore floors.

The client is Huramic Ltd who are based in Bridgnorth.

External Walls

The external panels for this congested town centre site were fixed in two working days, restricted for traffic management reasons, using a 100tonne mobile crane.

Internal Walls and Lift Shaft

Internal Walls

The internal walls and lift shaft walls were fixed to support the steel beams before the hollowcore units for the ground floor were fitted.

Connections

Steel reinforcing bars are threaded though loops in the panels to connect them together before a waterproof expanding grout is poured into the recess.

Steel Beams and Floor Units

Steel beams were fixed into pre-formed pockets in the walls. These support the floor units and the external walls as the basement is larger than the ground floor footprint.

Programme

More than 400 square metres of parking and storage space was created in 10 working days.

The project included precast liftshaft and staircase to the ground floor.

Backfilling with free draining stone

Some of the hollowcores were broken out to accommodate ties from the lower walls to the floors to comply with progressive collapse codes.

All the client had to do was backfill around the basement with a free draining stone.
